Do you know anything about Robert Temple’s book ‘The Crystal Sun’? In this book, Temple argues, with a wealth of detail, that the ancients manufactured lenses and optical instruments. Most of the reviews on Amazon.co.uk, are favourable, although one points out that Temple has the common fault of denigrating the work of professional historians and archaeologists. Since I am ignorant of these matters and therefore not qualified to judge Temple’s book, I should be interested to know your opinion, as a professional in the field, of his thesis.
Hello Keith and everybody else,
I have searched on this website and looked in the sections on the left but have not seen mention of the bell which was found embedded in a lump of coal by Newton Richard Anderson in 1943.
What are your views on this?
If this is an object from the 1800 or 1900’s I am surprised that nobody has recognised the bell by the figure on the top.
To me the figure looks like a birdman.
From what I can see the figure has wings, webbed feet and a beak.
